What is a Doula exactly?

The word ‘Doula’ is derived from Greek origin meaning “to serve”.   A Doula is a supporting person – typically a woman – who offers educational, physical and emotional support before during and after the birth experience.  By offering non judgmental unwavering support of all parenting goals parents are better able to prepare and thrive without becoming overwhelmed.

What does a postpartum Doula do?

The role of a postpartum doula is to help a woman through her postpartum period and to nurture the entire family. A doula’s focus is not solely on the baby, but on encouraging and promoting independence for the entire family.  By treating the family as a unit that is connected and always changing enables me to do my job: nurture the family through their transition into parenthood.  Everything from basic education and questions about caring for your infant, careful screening and education regarding post partum depression, handling of all of the sibling care while mom catches up on sleep in between feedings, meal/dinner prep, all baby care items cleaned and prepped for the next use, breastfeeding assistance and education, and so much more.  All care is customized to be exactly what you and your family will need.

Isn't this what my family and mother in law is for?

Having family come and visit is wonderful and highly encouraged!  In my experience, one of the things that is virtually impossible for anyone with an emotional attachment to you and your baby to do is to leave all of their baggage at the door.  My job as your Doula is to support you 100% in YOUR parenting goals.  Breastfeeding, Bottle feeding, or a combo.  Cloth diapering, paper diapers, or a combo.  What ever it is you want to do is what we will do.  Unbiased, non judgmental support so that you and your partner can become the best version of yourselves and feel comfortable and confident in your new role as parents.

Do I have to be a Doula client to hire you for personal training services?

NO WAY!!  Babies to Biceps, llc was founded simply because I couldn’t decide between my two passions.   I love the transformation that women make after giving birth and realizing how incredibly powerful their bodies are.  I love helping them channel that energy and power into changing their lives by digging deep and projecting that inner power outward.  Personal Training is a deep seated love of mine, the human body is fascinating and powerful.  Transforming it isn’t easy but it’s incredible.  You don’t have to give birth to realize your power.  Men and non pregnant women are encouraged and ALWAYS welcome to train with me.

Where do I start?

Call me or email me!  I will talk with you about which services you are interested in.  What your specific goals are and we will set up an initial consultation.  This consulation will either take place in your home or mine  (or my gym for training clients).  The cost of the consultation will be applied to your Doula services.  Personal Training “intake consults” are approximately  1 to 1.5 hours long and will assess everything from health history to your ability to do certain movements, prepare to sweat a little.

What is Online Training?

Online training is a new and exciting way to offer life changing, transformation, fitness coaching to clients. It can be utilized by anyone, anywhere, offering convenience, responsiveness, flexibility, and affordability. With it, I can empower my clients with more accountability and support than I ever could in-person.

Do you train men?

Absolutely.  Most of my clients are women,  but I have no problem coaching and training men.  I also have a few fantastic colleagues that I can, will and have referred to if a gentleman’s goals are outside of my scope.
